The awards and extensions follow a period of increased tendering activity and are testament to the Group’s strong commitment to order book replenishment and revenue growth.
Port Waratah Shiploader
Civmec’s materials handling works portfolio continues to grow, with the award of a new shiploader project for Port Waratah Coal Services (Port Waratah). The shiploader will be a critical asset for Port Waratah, allowing continued operation of the terminal over a number of years and is representative of Port Waratah’s continued investment in the terminal and the Hunter Region.
The project will include the design, fabrication, preassembly, shipping and installation of a new shiploader to the Kooragang Terminal, and removal of the existing shiploader.
Design and engineering will be executed by Civmec’s Perth-based in-house balanced machines engineering team, with manufacturing, preassembly and no-load commissioning undertaken at the Group’s manufacturing facilities. Once complete, the shiploader will be transported to the Kooragang Terminal for installation via heavy-lift ship, followed by the removal of the decommissioned shiploader.
The project is anticipated to create more than 100 highly specialised jobs throughout its duration and generate significant local employment and subcontractor opportunities. The shiploader is due for delivery and handover in 2028.
Port Waratah Shiploader Refurbishment
In addition to the award of the design, fabrication and preassembly of a new shiploader, Civmec has secured refurbishment works for an existing Port Waratah shiploader to ensure its continued reliable operation and extend its usable life. The project will be executed during calendar year 2025 by Civmec’s maintenance and capital works team with the support of its Newcastle manufacturing team. The works include various structural remediation works, strengthening, replacement of mechanical components and surface treatment.
The award of the Port Waratah contracts further strengthens Civmec’s materials handling and maintenance divisions and demonstrates client confidence in our expertise to deliver complex and integral packages of work. Civmec is the only Australian materials handling Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) that provides an integrated design to installation and sustainment capability in-house. This unique position allows Civmec to deliver comprehensive solutions that meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency, reinforcing its commitment to developing domestic capabilities and client focused solutions.
Eneabba Tanks and Civil Works
Civmec has been awarded a contract for the design and construction of field erected tanks
and civil concrete works for Iluka Resources’ Eneabba rare earths refinery – Australia’s first
fully-integrated facility for the production of separated rare earth oxides. The refinery will
establish Western Australia as a strategic hub for the downstream processing of rare earths
and position Iluka and Australia at the forefront of global electrification and efforts to diversify
supply chains.
The field erected tanks portion of Civmec’s contract encompasses the design, manufacture
and construction of 30 tanks of varying sizes. The manufacturing of the tanks will be performed
by the Henderson manufacturing team, before transportation to the Eneabba site for final
assembly and installation.
The onsite civil concrete works portion includes detailed excavation, formwork, reinforcement
and concrete placing for over 11,000m³ of concrete for the project. Works are expected to be
completed in 2026.
Maintenance Services Growth
Consistent with Civmec’s focus on maintenance services as a pillar of growth and its
investment in establishing facilities in Port Hedland and Gladstone to service the needs of
maintenance clients, Civmec has recently secured in excess of A$40 million of maintenance
work during Q3 of FY25.
